Mary at Midnight - "Songbird" New Video

                           "Songbird" New Video

Mary st Midnight
Somewhere in between day and night comes Mary at Midnight.

A little bit Indian, a little bit English, Mary at Midnight couples live instruments with dreamy sampled beats, blending them with words often born from the chromosomes of too little sleep and an over-active imagination.

The odd tabla beat or harmonium drone is wrapped up in a comforting blanket of satisfying electro beats and ethereal vocals.

Influenced by previous musical projects within a wide range of genres, from intimate folk to a bit of the louder stuff, Mary at Midnight draws many references but maintains very much her own sound.

Currently writing tracks with Talvin Singh, and plotting the first few gigs with the live band, Mary at Midnight will very soon be floating around the ether somewhere between daytime and the magic that only the depths of a dark night can provide.   - Sonia Zhuravlyova

"encypher" is all about transforming the guts of a situation to the beauty and perfection of a song. To create a world where we can pull out the emotion in any given situation and evoke a visceral reaction through an audience.

"encypher" means to convert a message into cypher. Cypher means a message in code only fully understood by the author.

That’s what encypher does, transforming the pain, to where it becomes pleasurable to go through it once again into the positive outlet of music…

"New September" will take you back to a time when it seemed as if summer would last forever. Reminisce about the days when the bond of friendships was the only thing that mattered and how those are the memories that remain in your heart forever.

Streets of Hastings

"We're just a drinkin' band with a rock 'n roll problem..."

Streets of Hastings
How many bands do you know that can pull off a two-set show, in front of over 100 people, within a mere 6 weeeks of forming?  I mean, for a 6 week old band to be playing 17 songs in front of an audience?!?!  That sh*t ain't normal!

And to make the best of it, Streets of Hastings didn't just pull it off... they lit it up!

Formed in December 2009, S.o.H prides itself on not being conveniently fit into a genre category.  They write, compose and perform their own originals, but also add a few covers to the set for the crowd to have fun with some familiar tunes... but make no mistake, this ain't no cover band... not S.o.H.

Get yer arse unstapled from the couch... come out and be part of the S.o.H experience.

Like a resourceful explorer, I filled this emptiness with discoveries of music, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and the occasional bout of sport... but it was never enough. At the age of 17, I started out on my own... sans family... to seek out that which would satisfy the neverending hunger inside me. Then, in a tent in the Gatineau Hills, I found them! BOOBIES! The abyss was closed!.... briefly.

Shortly after the discovery of women... I learned that everything has a dark side. Events that I dare not divulge - as they would spoil the movie ;) - took me down the grittier path in life. I found myself living as a street kid, a drifter, a vagrant and a transient. It was awesome, but it was not without it's share of hardship. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a shower when you don't have your own. This journey has made a story teller out of me, and there is nothing I love more than to make new stories. This is where Streets of Hastings comes in...  Read more

I was born in North Bay Ontario until the age of 3, when my parents attempted to immigrate to civilization, but failed miserably and ended up in Rockland. I have been here ever since. I guess that’s not a bad thing when you want to be a musician, because when you have nothing else to do, you practice.

I’ve been playing music since the age of 6, starting off on the piano, taking classical lessons until the 6th grade, where I fell out of love with the instrument, because of it’s lack of adaptability to the ‘hardness’ of what I was listening to at the time. About 6 months later, I started to harrass my parents to fork out some cash to buy me another instrument, but had not decided which one yet. I picked the guitar because in every musical instrument store I would walk into, they would be everywhere on the walls. You can say I found my voice with guitar, and have spent the last 10 years or so playing it as my main instrument, while tabbling on about another douzen random ones... Read more

Born and raised in Rockland, Ontario, I started playing hockey at a very young age. As my involvement in the sport continued, I began to expand my social horizons, getting to know just about anybody in Rockland who had already made a name for him or herself via the hockey community.

As high school slowly crawled to a halt, my hobbies also slowly started to turn toward a more artistic and creative avenue. In an attempt to satiate my thirst for a more creative lifestyle, I quickly decided to move away from sciences at school and tread closer and closer to literature and the art of rhetoric. After a couple of years as an English Literature student at the University of Ottawa, I then decided to dive even deeper into the world of creativity and picked up music, more specifically the bass. While the instrument choice may have seemed odd and obscure at first, I quickly came to realize that bass was a perfect choice, as a complimentary and vitally necessary part of any serious music group. Honing my talents not only technically, but also theoretically, I am now able to say that I am the bass player for Streets of Hastings... Read more

A proud Newfoundlander of Irish & English descent, I left St. John's as a teenager to attend university in Nova Scotia. With a degree in hand, I returned to the Rock to work for a few years, until my profession moved me around the country, including posts in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and most recently, Ontario.

Being from Newfoundland, listening (and drinking!) to traditional Irish music has always been a big source of enjoyment. Playing a musical instrument, though, wasn’t a part of life… instead I was more of an athlete, primarily playing competitive hockey and soccer. I enjoyed music, but never saw myself as the artistic type to have ability, or much interest, to play an instrument.

That changed in 2008, when my eldest daughter (who is most certainly set to be a professional musician) prompted me to try drumming. March of that year was the first time I ever held a set of drumsticks… and I really haven’t put them down since...  Read more

Phildel - Upcoming Shows and "The Wolf" Video

Shot in the darkly picturesque winter woodland of the New Forest, this is the latest hand-crafted collection of visuals to accompany my music. The track is the sinister dance mix of The Wolf. Silhouettes and shadows set the scene for this video. The picture quality is low and deliberately juttery in an attempt to capture the style of old-school horror films.

Phildel is a truly unique artist creating music that is inspired by imagination. As a child, playing the piano and even listening to music within her home was forbidden - as her strict, religious step-father believed music was an unholy distraction from prayer.

Despite the difficulties, Phildel devoted her free time at school to playing and writing songs on the school piano. Finally, at the age of seventeen she ran away from home, leaving only a letter behind in explanation.

Determined to pursue the creation of music that she loved and had nurtured in secret for so many years, she created a basic studio in her tiny bedroom and recorded her first demo.

In 2007 Phildel's track Piano B found it's way on to one of the year's biggest tv advertising campaigns, bringing her to the UK's attention for the first time. Soon, in 2008 the same occurred in France with another two highly popular, filmic television campaigns. She was quickly signed to Warner Chappell Music Publishing in early 2009.

With sell-out shows arranged through Earls Court Festival, combining surrealist art and music, word of the deeply enchanting live shows of Phildel also began to spread throughout the art world.

In 2010 award-winning London Fashion Week designer, Henrietta Ludgate asked if Phildel would create the music for her 'enchanted woodland' catwalk show with London Fashion Week. Just days later, 'The Kiss' another one of Phildel's moving pieces was selected for yet another major advertising campaign.

With the world's leading fashion designers, writers and major brands, eager to share in the magic of her sound, it is clear that this is just the beginning for this gifted artist. From this point onwards the world is undoubtedly going to hear more and more of Phildel, as her incredibly unique work inpires growing numbers of all ages everywhere.
