Mayu
Although Mayu's birth certificate declares her as a native of Hawaii, the singer/songwriter moved to California well before the age of one. In fact, her sound is that of a true southern Californian.
At 12 years old, she began practicing guitar with her father, who is credited for her now developed skill with the instrument. Growing up, she was heavily influenced and inspired by a diverse collection of artists, including The Carpenters, The Cardigans, Makihara Noriyuki, and Urufuruzu.
A recent graduate of the University of California, San Diego, it was during her time at school that she cultivated her craft for songwriting, gaining inspiration from fellow students who also wrote their own music.
What truly sets Mayu apart from her contemporaries is her ability to compose songs in both English and Japanese, as well as her unbiased perspective on life from two ethnically diverse cultures.
Her songs speak directly to the emotions of human strength and weakness through their melodies. Language aside, Mayu's true talent is her ability to permeate language barriers and enchant all who come in contact with her music.
In 2008, Mayu won HoriPro Entertainment Group's Dig Up Artist U.S.A competition and has been working as an official H.E.G songwriter, ever since.
